Is It Ever Going to End?

Peering out from underneath my copy of the Constitution and the Federalist papers to wonder how I ever made it through college. I am so freaking tired, I cannot function. Oh yeah, and that was my cellphone raising all kinds of hell this morning during the lecture. Yeah, you got that right. Sunday morning lecture.

This experience is truly amazing, but I swear to Oprah, if I live through it, I am making a medal for myself and wearing it home on the airplane. (Crap. Have to fly back, don't I?)

Right now, I am shaking, I am so tired.

And the best part? One of our lecturers forgot to turn off his portable microphone when he should have. You fill in the details.

Okay. Did the dude realize that he had left the microphone on? And did he take a break while all his students sat in the classroom, listening?

I hope you make yourself a real nice medal, all shiny and purty. Nothing annoys The Pro more than the "everybody gets a medal!" movement, but I think even he would agree that if anyone deserves one, it's Teachergirl.

Cupcake, he had totally forgotten he was hooked up to any kind of microphone. He casually said that he wanted us to read something terribly long and hard and boring and he left the room. We heard him walking down the hall... and then, well... the telltale sound of someone who hadn't been able to take a bathroom break for quite a while. The other person left behind in the room was frantically searching for a way to turn it off before he launched into any more bodily functions. And being the professionals that we are, we managed to suck it in before he got back. I don't think he knows we were all in on his personal business.

Oh dear. I assure you, I would not have been very professional. In fact, I'm laughing so hard right now, I might have to excuse my own darn self.

Please tell me that he didn't emit a vocal sound of relief. You know the "ahhhhhhh" that occasionally accompanies a good purge. There is no way - no freaking way - I could have kept a straight face.

Cupcake,
Let me assure you that there was not one straight face nor one dry eye from the hysterical sounds of laughter coming from the fifty of us in that auditorium. We realized that this dear old man would be humiliated and it was only then that we pulled our stuff together. We couldn't look at each other - and I mean for the rest of the hour - but afterwards, well, it has been nonstop "Is your microphone still on?" jokes all day long. The other institute director got the mike off before the big "ahhhhhh" or worse, plop, could hit.
