Sunday Summary

• Teachers report for pre-planning Thursday. You read that right: Thursday.
• Students report for the first day of school the following Thursday. You read that right, too.
• Only saving grace: Fall Break near the end of September. The way I figure it, I can do anything for 9 weeks.
• Cancun was FABULOUS!!!! All inclusive is the only way to go. The people at the resort were concerned with my happiness and well-being and whether or not I needed another drink. (I did.)
• Two weeks from today, Prep will be waking up in her own dorm room in Auburn. I get a little more devestated every day - and am proud of her independence at the same time.
• Two weeks from today, BrownBear will be waking up as the only child in the domicile. She is more worried about that than just about anything else.
• Primary elections last week kicked some serious behind. Can't wait until November - our district's school board rep is in for a rude awakening.
• Back to the choir loft this morning.

The Downhill Slide to Summer

A girl can dream, right? Summer, pools, sandy beaches...all the while, we are in the deep freeze - the high today was about 32 degrees in our lovely metropolis.

Back to school today - and back to school nonsense. Today's inservice, you ask? Singapore Math. As if United States Math wasn't bad enough. This is a system of drawing models to help students figure out word problems. If you follow the steps, you will eventually get an answer. Now, the only problem with this problem solving method is the amount of time needed to implement - another fifteen minutes per day - and the fact that you DO need to be able to do math once you get the picture/model drawing correct.

On another note, our superintendent sent the annual school climate survey to the teachers today. Is the man on crack? I love how he thinks that Christmas vacation smooths things over. Just another day in paradise.

The Week That Won

Thank goodness it's Thursday - that means tomorrow is Friday and this week will be over. And it wins. First weeks of school suck. I hate them. All this paperwork and this is how we do things and all that crap. Let's just get down to it. Wait 'til I introduce you to my genuises.
