Stick a Fork in Me

Ahhhhh.....Spring Break. It just sort of happened. And thank goodness because I couldn't have taken one more minute.

I became an aunt yesterday for the second time. They named her Ella Louise. I hope she doesn''t have a speech problem when she gets older. I don't see any good nicknames coming out of this. And my brother had to put his dog down today. My sister said he was a basket case; I'll bet. He's had that dog for 17 years. Longer than we've had Prep.

One of our teachers at school had a baby about two weeks ago. He was six weeks early. He has been diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome and it doesn't look like he's going to make it at all.

We need a break. Right now.

SPRING BREAK

I wish I could say that I had magnificent plans for this week (Antigua, Disney World, New York City) but I will settle for Starbucks, the book store and a good massage without having to grade, plan or think about the geniuses (thank you, Cupcake) for ten whole days. That may be break enough. I only have to get to May 23, people, and I will let this group go. Can I get an amen?

And next year, for some of you who aren't following, including you, LawyerBoy, I will only be responsible for one class of Math and four classes of Language Arts - departmentalization. Our principal agreed this week to let us give it a go. So, the other three teachers are going to split up the rest of the subjects and we will send the children around to get a taste of middle school. They don't believe us when we talk about how difficult it really is - so we have decided to ratch it up a notch. All I can say is buckle up, fourth graders. We're getting ready for you.

Spring Break, All Around

I put the princesses on an airplane just a few hours ago; Spring Break began in earnest. I assume you saw CNN and the tornado that tore up downtown in the Deep South? After that last night, it did nothing but storm all night long. (Does anyone remember that we are in a drought?)

I prayed hard (and I mean hard) because I am a bad flier, but I was putting my babies on a jet plane, people. As we got closer to the airport, BrownBear began to babble. PrepGirl looked over at her and said, "You're beginning to sound like Mom. Quit." I freely admit it. I was a basket case. But BrownBear was looking and sounding a little like a basket case, too. However, flying in stormy weather isn't anybody's idea of a good time. LawyerBoy and I got to escort them through security to the gate to hand them off to my sister, PrincipalGirl.

Once they got to the beach, BrownBear gave me a call. They had lined up and were 12th to take off. But they got up and got there.

Now, there's nothing but blue skies and sandy beaches.

Unless you're me; then it's nothing but quiet, putting things away and them staying that way and nobody home in the afternoon. I guess that's what it will be like when college comes along.
