Houston, I Must Apologize

Galveston, too. And Shreveport and St. Louis. Because this big pile of crap blowing your way must, in some way, be my fault.

Our dishwasher gave out Sunday. (Heaven help me, but that is another story for another day.) I cursed it out before going to big church. (Heaven help me, again.) Dishwasher fixer can't come until Thursday (?!?!), so we have been making due with paper products. (I'm not proud - the planet is going to have to wait for me to get back on board. I'm having to wash these bad boys by hand.)

LawyerBoy graciously volunteered to wait out the repairman on Thursday. (You know how they can't be here at a specific time? They can only promise you that they will make it between 1:00 and 5:00. Well, unless I bring the class on over here, I have to take half a day and get a sub. I don't think so.)

So, while LB is waiting for the repairman, he mows the lawn, trims the hedges, does the freaking laundry.

If you felt that tilting of the axis of the earth, well, it came from here. Sorry.

Back from the Party and Ready to Die

That's completely the way I felt Tuesday morning. I had spent a very long weekend in D.C. with some other teachers attending some conference. However, as soon as it ended, we hit the trail. (The Metro, really.)

Two of my teacher friends had never seen the nation's capital. NEVER. With my sister's help, we thoroughly endoctrinated them in our nation's history. It is never easy, picking and choosing just what sites to see, especially when time is limited. One of them thought we could cruise the Smithsonian. After all, she said, we had 45 minutes.

They marched my fanny up and down the mall, from the Smithsonian station all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial, with pit stops at the White House, Washington Memorial, World War II Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. (I couldn't take one more step over to the Korean War Memorial - I'm so sorry.) We then cruised Georgetown, Dupont Circle, (Sydney Wade couldn't get off of it in The American President), the Jefferson Memorial and then down to the Capitol, Supreme Court and Library of Congress. I'm tired remembering. And Arlington National Cemetery, two hours before we were supposed to fly home. That plane ride back was the longest time I had sat down in four days.

My children nearly cried when I got back. "Dad's Dad, but he's no Mom."

That was the best part of the trip.

Lawyer Boy In Charge

LawyerBoy is in charge after I leave on Thursday.

That shouldn't give me pause - he has a college degree with a double major, a Master's Degree and a Law Degree. As he has often told me, that law degree allows him to do anything: diagnose disease, teach school, critique movies, and - take care of the children. (That law degree really gave him one hell of an ego, is what I think.)

That wouldn't be such an issue except they are both going to camp and they are leaving after I leave. That means lots of packing crazy crap like mess kits and lots of clothes and sleeping bags and who knows what the hell else.

So, I am washing clothes like a crazy woman and laying out stuff and lists and packing everything for them that I can. The rest is left up to them.

And being the control freak that I am, that is driving me crazy.

Yeah, that and the flying.
